Healthy Snacks for Children After School

Usually, children come back from school with an appetite to gulp an elephant, and the mothers or grand-mothers or caregivers always try hard to cook something healthy and attractive for the naughty ones.

While some children want to have light food, others may eat more in the evening and have a light dinner later. However, rather than the amount of food they eat, parents would be more concerned about the nutrition they get through it.

Here are a set of healthy evening snacks that lure your kids to eat more while ensuring an adequate amount of vitamins and proteins.

  1. Sandwich

Make sandwich stuffed with either vegetable like carrot, cucumber, tomatoes or with fruits like pineapple, apple, banana, and strawberry. Apply whipped cream on bread for better taste.

It can feed the appetite in children along with some nutritious benefits.

  1. Sweet Paniyaram

It is a Tamil dish but can be made by anyone. For Sweet Paniyaram, use whole wheat flour. Add melted jaggery to the grated coconut and mix a batter with wheat powder. Pour the batter into the Paniyaram pan and let the both sides cook properly.

With some tasty Paniyaram, your child gets fiber rich food.

  1. Oatmeal Pancakes

Powder the oats of your choice and add required amount of salt and a pinch of cinnamon. Mix it well. Now whisk egg, butter and a cup of milk. Add the oats powder into it and make the batter. Pour the batter into the pan and garnish it with chocolate or any other syrup.

Oats are considered as good for weight gaining as it contains carbohydrates and fiber.

  1. Cornflakes Chat

Take one and a half cup cornflakes, one small tomato, chopped onion, pepper powder, dates, and chaat masala. Mix the veggies and mash them a bit and add salt. Sprinkle some lemon juice if your child likes its flavor.

Cornflakes provide enough vitamins for your child, and the benefit increases with the added vegetables.

  1. Egg Salad

Boil the eggs. Mix some cabbage leaves, chopped onion, and grated carrot. If you want, sprinkle some lemon juice. Toss it well. Remove the shells and cut the egg into small cubes. Mix it well with the veggies along with chat masala and pepper powder.

Egg is a major source of calcium and other vitamins. Hence with a mixture of cabbage leaves, it provides adequate nutrition.

  1. Rice Flour Dosa stuffed with coconut

Make the rice flour batter for dosa. Prepare a mixture of grated coconut with sugar. After pouring the dosa batter on the pan put the coconut and sugar mixture. Take half part of dosa and close its other part making it stuff kind of.

Rice flour dosa prepared after fermentation is easy to digest and provide additional nutrients.

  1. Fruit smoothies

Use banana, apple or any other fruits with milk to make fresh smoothies. Garnish with dry fruits and nuts. Children will love to have it.

  1. Sweet corn

Try sweet corn with cheese or spiced sweet corn as snacks for children as it would feel enough for children and ensures nutrition.

  1. Fruit salad

Cut various fruits like pineapple, apple, and watermelon. Use pomegranate, grapes, along with dry fruits and nuts. Mix custard powder with milk and mix it with fruits.
